No-Fail Correct Path
Kathleen's no fail method for
getting the correct path for your script
1. Click on your Start
Button, then select Run.
2. When your Run Box
appears, click on Browse and a browse box
will come up. On the line that says "files
of type" select all files by using the
little arrow beside the box.

3. Navigate to the folder
that contains your graphic or midi you wish
to use. In my example I was wanting a
picture from my Carl Valente folder which is
kept in My Documents/My Pictures. Now
double click on the file you wish to use for
your script and you will find the path will
be placed in the Run box.
4. Right click in the box
where your path is displayed to make it
active. A little drop down box will come
down which will allow you to copy the path.
5. Now go to your script
and highlight your path in the script making
sure to include the quotation marks.

Right click
and go paste...perfect path every time.
Adjusting
Midi Volume
To change the volume on
your midi look at this path here in your
script:
<BGSOUND balance=0
loop=infinite src="c:/Program Files/Common
Files/Microsoft
Shared/Stationery/Lesson7.mid"
volume=0>
Change the volume=0 to
volume=-900
(minus 900) and keep going lower until you
get the effect you want.
Adjusting
Midi Repititions
To change how many times
your wave file plays look at this path in
your script
<BGSOUND balance=0
loop=infinite
src="c:/Program
Files/Common Files/Microsoft
Shared/Stationery/Lesson7.wav" volume=0>
Change the loop=infinite
to
loop=2
(or how many times you
want the wave to play)
Snagging
Midis and Images
If an image
has been created by the individual it is
correct etiquette to ask that person for
permission before snagging it.
In Outlook
Express go to Tools/Options/Send. Put your
settings as example below. It is the Mail
Sending Format that has to be set to Plain
Text. The rest of your settings are your
own choosing.

When you see
an email or stationery that has an image or
a midi that you would like to snag, forward
your email and it will bring it up like
following example

You will see
the image files and midi....now all you have
to do is go into file/save attachments and
put them in a folder for future use.

Compressing
Wav Files
We would like to thank
Sherry, one of our graduates, for the use of
her tutorial "Wav Compression" which shows
you how to decrease the size of your .wav
files.

Installing
PSP Filters
There are
many places on the web where you can
download free filters for Paint Shop Pro.
You might want to look in our groups
bookmark section to see a couple of them.
You can also go to a good search engine and
hunt for sites that have free PSP filters.
Some filters have free trial offers so you
can see if you like them well enough to pay
for them.
First,
make a folder on your hard drive for your
filters. This folder should be located
outside the Windows\Program Files folder.
For example, you could place it just on your
"C" drive. (C:\Filters) or (C:\Plugins)
Unzip the
filters you want to install and place them
in your filter folder.
Open PSP, and
go to Files > Preferences > File Locations

In the
'Folder 1' field, browse to the location of
your filter folder. Click OK.
If any of
your filters do not work, or show up in the
list, you might need to install the
plugin.dll and/or the
Msvcrt10.dll.
For Windows
98 or ME- Install to
C:\Windows\System
For Windows
2000 or XP - Install to
C:\Windows\System 32
You may have to close the
PSP program and restart it, if your filters
do not show up. If this does not work,
contact
Kathleen.
Installing
Fonts
It is not a
good idea to load all the fonts you have
into your Windows Fonts folder. It
slows down your computer, and can make
programs crash.
There are
various font managers that you can use, and
The Font Thing is a good one.
